Stamped concrete is poured like a standard slab, then pressed with textured mats while it's still workable. The result is a continuous surface that reads as stone, brick, slate, cobble, or wood plank without the joints, weeds, and shifting you get with pavers. Color is built in two ways. Integral color is mixed into the concrete before the pour, so the tone runs all the way through the slab. Surface color comes from a dry-shake color hardener broadcast onto the wet slab, plus a release agent in a contrasting shade that settles into the stamp lines and gives the pattern depth. For a more natural, variegated look, we use acid stains and water-based stains that react with the concrete to produce earth tones, terracotta, and warm browns. Patios and walkways are typically poured 4 inches thick; driveways that carry vehicles go 6 inches with rebar. Decorative slabs get the same structural attention as any other pour, then the finish work on top.

Timing is its own skill in our climate. Hot, dry Valley summers pull moisture out of fresh concrete fast, which shortens the window for stamping and can cause surface cracking if it's rushed. We schedule decorative pours for the right time of day, use evaporation retarders when needed, and cure the slab properly so the color sets evenly and the surface stays strong. On a stamped job you only get one shot at the texture, so we bring enough hands to stamp the whole area before it sets up.

Once the slab is stamped and colored, we seal it. A quality sealer locks in the color, brings out the pattern, blocks stains, and protects the surface from UV fading and the freeze-thaw and heat cycles concrete sees outdoors.
