Not all concrete damage is the same, and the fix depends on what caused it. Hairline surface cracks are usually cosmetic. Wide, growing cracks, slabs that have settled or heaved, and spalling surfaces point to a problem with the sub-base, drainage, or the original pour. Central Valley soil works against concrete in two ways. Expansive clay swells when wet and shrinks when it dries out, and that movement lifts and drops slabs over the seasons. When a slab is structurally sound but the surface is worn, stained, or flaking, we can apply an overlay to give it a clean, new face without the cost of a full replacement. It depends on the crack and what caused it. Narrow surface cracks can often be cleaned, filled, and sealed. Wide cracks that keep growing, or slabs that have settled and shifted, usually point to a sub-base or drainage problem that a patch won't fix.
