Every job starts with a free on-site visit. We look at the space, check drainage and grade, and ask what you want the finished surface to do and look like. Decorative work lives and dies on the prep underneath it, so we spend real time on the part nobody sees. We strip and excavate to the right depth, compact the sub-grade, and bring in a clean crushed-rock base. Central Valley soil is often expansive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. If you skip the base prep on that kind of ground, the prettiest stamped pattern in the world will still crack and lift within a couple of seasons. We grade for positive drainage so water runs away from your house and your slab, not toward it.

Once the base is set, we build the forms, set the reinforcement, and pour. For most decorative flatwork we run rebar or wire mesh sized to the load, with patios and walkways typically at 4 inches thick and anything that carries vehicles closer to 6 inches with rebar. We cut control joints in the right spots so the concrete cracks where you want it to instead of randomly across your new patio. Retaining walls are their own animal. Those need a proper footing, vertical and horizontal steel, and drainage behind the wall so hydrostatic pressure does not push it over. A retaining wall that holds back soil with no weep holes or drain rock behind it is a wall that leans, then fails. We build them to hold.

The decorative part is where you get options. Stamped concrete presses a texture and pattern into fresh concrete so it reads like stone, brick, slate, or wood plank at a fraction of the cost of the real material. We also do exposed aggregate, where we wash the surface to reveal the stone in the mix for a finish with grip and texture, which makes it a smart pick for pool decks that get wet. Then there is color: integral color mixed through the batch, broadcast color hardener for a denser surface, and acid or water-based stains that soak in for a mottled, natural look on both interior and exterior slabs. Finishes range from a simple broom finish for traction to a smooth trowel for a clean modern face. We will show you what each one looks like before we commit so there are no surprises after the pour.

Pool decks and patios are the projects we get asked about most. A good pool deck needs slip resistance, a surface that does not bake your feet in a hot Valley summer, and joints laid out so the slab moves without cracking. We pour around existing pools, match grade to the coping, and seal the finished deck to hold up against chlorine, sun, and splash. Patios are similar but give you more room to play with shape, color, and stamped borders. For repair and replacement, we handle cracked or sunken slabs, spalled surfaces where the top has flaked off, trip hazards on walkways, and pours that were never done right the first time. Sometimes a slab can be resurfaced or have a section replaced. Sometimes the honest answer is that it needs to come out and be redone, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

Timing matters more here than people expect. Hot, dry Valley summers pull water out of concrete fast, and concrete that dries too quickly does not cure, it just goes hard and weak on top. We schedule pours for the cooler part of the day in summer, keep the surface damp during the cure, and use sealers and curing compounds so the slab gains its full strength. We seal decorative surfaces to lock in the color and protect the finish, and we tell you how to keep it looking right with a reseal every few years. That is the difference between a stamped patio that still looks sharp in ten years and one that fades and crumbles.
